Type of publication: Others, Nanoforum publication
Abstract: The Nanoforum article provides an overview of the Risk Governance conceptual framework for Nanotechnology prepared by the International Risk Governance Council. The framework has been developed taking into consideration scientific, social, regulatory and science policy issues involving all stakeholders.
Summary: With the growing interest and development of nanotechnology and its applications within society, a framework is required to address a myriad of issues spanning different areas of knowledge. The IRGC has proposed a conceptual framework for nanotechnology. This framework takes into consideration the present regulatory scenario, international situation and the science-policy interface. The framework has been developed taking into account the four generations of nanotechnology products and their potential character. The framework also integrates risk-benefit assessment such as health, environmental and safety along with social and ethical issues from the societal perspective.
