Nanomaterials in the Workplace. Policy and Planning Workshop on Occupational Safety and Health

Type of publication: Report

Abstract: The report presents the results of a policy workshop to determine the priorities in research funding by NIOSH on nanosafety at the workplace, held 17 October 2005.

Summary: The participants concluded that NIOSH should focus their limited expertise and resources on critical federal roles including establishing toxicology fundamentals, and assisting in assuring worker protection to exposure to nanomaterials. Networking and coordination of the activities of all stakeholders is key to safe nanomaterial development. There is a need for education and training of specialists and the budget for occupational nanosafety and health may need to be increased.
