French nanodebate sabotaged
The public nanodebate in France is increasingly obstructed by radical anti-nano activists. The meeting in Orsay on 26 January had to be moved to the internet because the meeting room was destroyed the night before.
Earlier, two sessions in Grenoble, 1 December and in Lyon, 14 January were cancelled and one meeting in Rennes, 7 January, continued in two rooms separating the speakers and the audience because about 100 participants disrupted the meeting making loud noises.
The series of 17 meetings all over France continues with three more scheduled events, and on the internet until 23 February. Interested persons and organisations are invited to submit comments, opinions, and papers to the website. The independent commission organising the public debate will collect all contributions to the debate and report on the outcomes to the government. The commission emphasises their independence and neutrality and promises to give uncensored information. The government has promised to reply a few months after having received the report.
