Asia Nano Forum (ANF)

The organisation

The Asia Nano Forum (ANF) is a network organisation, founded in May 2004, to promote excellence in research, development and the economic uptake of nanotechnology within the Asian region. This collaborative network seeks to benefit its member economies educationally, socially, environmentally and economically by fostering collaboration and acting as a focus for regional and global nanotechnology issues. Asia Nano Forum (ANF) is supported by 13 economies in the Asia Pacific region including Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Korea, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.

The ANF objectives are to:

Kind of collaboration

Nanoforum and ANF aim to support academic and industrial researchers looking for partners and funding opportunities for international collaborations in nanotechnology. To enable this, both organisations publish a link, description of the organisation and regularly updated news and events about the other organisation on their webportal.

News/events

Thailand hosts the IEEE-Nanotechnology Council's nanotechnology seminar 17-19 January 2007, with 300 participants. The state owned NanoTech carries out research in nanotechnology since 2003, with annual investment of $6 million.

Nanonet, the Nanotechnology Researchers Network Center of Japan issues weekly newsletters in English highlighting senior and young Japanese researchers.

During the first 16 months of its existence, the ANF has built a website as a platform to allow al network economies in the Asia Pacific region to upload and share information on nanotechnology. During 2004-5, ANF has actively supported member economies with their nanotechnology initiatives and events through ANF special workshops in China on societal impact, in Malaysia with the launch of their national nanotechnology initiative and the Malaysian Nanotechnology Forum (MNF2005), as well as other international or bilateral nanotechnology events in Korea, Hong Kong, Indonesia, and Taiwan. ANF has also started a human resource exchange programme between Malaysia and Japan. Steering Committee meetings have been held in Beijing (Nov. 04), Johor Bahru (July 05), Hong Kong (Aug. 05), and Taipei (Spet. 05) to review ANF activities and the future operation of ANF.
