Israel

 

Israel established the Israeli National Nanotechnology Initiative (INNI) in 2003, which follows the US Nanotechnology National Programme model. The main objective of INNI is to make nanotechnology the next wave of successful industry in Israel, by creating a Government-Academy-Industry collaboration. The activities of the initiative are operated through the Israel Nanotechnology Trust (http://www.nanotrust.org.il/), which is the fundraising and fund distribution arm of the INNI.

 

 

Government Initiatives

 

Israel Small and Medium Enterprise Authority

The Israel Small and Medium Enterprise Authority was established at the initiative of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, partnered by Government ministries, and various economic, business, and public organisations. 

Centres for the Promotion of Entrepreneurship (CPEs)

The Israel Small and Medium Enterprises Authority is engaged in establishing and supporting the operation of Small Business Development Centres (CPE).

Business Training to SMEs

The Ministry of Industry and Trade has developed a special business training project to provide SMEs with management support tools and professional advice. Within the project’s framework, up to 150 hours of professional advice are provided by trained and experienced tutors from the business sector, for appropriate businesses (employ between 5 - 100 employees, operate in national priority areas A and B, and are located in areas of high unemployment).

Finance

The SME Authority along with the Industry and Trade Ministry has set up various financial support options to assist SMEs with credit problems. The authority is committed to finding solutions for finance, investments for business development, etc.

The United States-Israel Science and Technology Foundation

The US-Israel Science and Technology Foundation (http://www.usistf.org/) is a nongovernment organisation charged with managing and carrying-out strategic programs developed by the United States-Israel Science and Technology Commission which supports the process of globalization by ensuring that physical borders and cultural disparity do not impose barriers on commercial collaboration.

 

Israeli Europe Research and development directorate (ISERD)

The ISERD aims at promoting joint Israeli-EU R&D ventures within the EU's R&D framework programme. ISERD which operates through the office of the Chief Scientist of the Ministry of Industry and Labour is the Israeli national contact point (NCP) for the Frame Work Programmes.

 

Yeda Research and Development Company Ltd

Yeda is responsible for technology transfer from the Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel's leading center of research and graduate education. Yeda holds an exclusive agreement with the Institute for the marketing and commercialization of new developments emerging from the Institute's laboratories. 

 

TAU Research Institute for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology

Tel Aviv University has an interdisciplinary research institute for nanoscience and nanotechnology in Israel, with a multimillion investment. More than 40 groups actively conduct leading research in electronics, physics, chemistry, biotech and medicine, developing more than 85 specific and interdisciplinary projects.

Israeli NanoBusiness Alliance (INA)

The Israeli Nano Business Alliance (INBA) worked with other groups to create the INNI and to establish a number of organisations to support the Nanotechnology business community. The business alliance works separately from the national initiative focusing on helping industrial companies in nanotechnology products and applications, business development and marketing.

 

Waterfronts

Waterfronts, the Israel Water Alliance, brings together venture capital funds, industrial firms, academia, and private and institutional investors, and includes the Israeli Water Association, the Israel Export Institute, the Technion's Water Research Institute, Israel Manufacturers Association, Mekorot, and the National Nanotechnology Committee.
