Ireland Nanotechnology activity in Ireland is coordinated through three
Government organisations; the Irish Council for Science and Technology
Innovation (ICSTI), the Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) and the Irish Research
Council for Science.
ICSTI advises the government in strategic policies and issues related to science and technology in Ireland. It is the one responsible for advising the Ministry of Science and Technology on new technologies and emerging sciences and undertakes actions to achieve the goals set by the National mission.
Enterprise Ireland (EI) is an Irish state development agency focused on accelerating the development of world-class Irish companies. Its main vision is to transform Irish companies into businesses that are market focused and innovation driven. It encourages and supports new high potential start-up businesses, through an extensive network of 13 Irish offices and 33 international offices.
National Nanotechnology Forum
The National Nanotechnology Forum has been set up to bring together industry, academia and the state agencies to build on and renew the shared vision and agreed strategy for nanotechnology in Ireland.
Public and Private Centres
Focas Institute was established by the Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT) to promote interdisciplinary collaborations within the Institute and with other national and international bodies, and to provide a support service for national industry.
CREST
CREST is another industrial partnership and support initiative of the DIT’s for nanotechnologies. This centre of excellence is involved in research, development and consultancy services.
The Tyndall Institute is one of the largest multidisciplinary research institutes in Ireland and has achieved the scale necessary to compete in the international R&D market with a critical mass in excess of 200 researchers and support staff along with a significant research infrastructure currently valued at over 120 million euros.
CRANN is Ireland's first purpose-built Research Institute with a mission to advance the frontiers of nanoscience, where Physics, Chemistry and Biology converge. Each of the CRANN PI’s is involved in research in one or more of these thematic areas, with support from Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) as well as other national and international funding agencies.
National Centre for Laser Applications (NCLA)
NCLA is a centre of excellence with expertise and a comprehensive group of laser systems available to the manufacturing industry for the development of innovative products and processes. The Centre interacts with industry through consultancy, laboratory-based feasibility trials, full R&D services, technology transfer, prototyping, laser safety audits and a number of tailored training courses in laser technology, applications and safety.
Trade Alliances and Networks
Irish Nanotechnology Association
The Irish Nanotechnology Association was created by Enterprise Ireland to encourage the development of nanomaterials and processes by Irish Industry.technical realisation:
