Edinburgh, December 1st - 2nd 2003
The idea of inbuilt intelligence or smartness is gaining credence in the quest for structures
and systems that respond in a meaningful way to the body’s environment. The market for
medical devices is very large and growing quickly. It presently stands at 139 billion Euros and
is forecast to rise by 25% by 2005 (Ref: Eucomed).
Nanotechnology is functional engineering on an extremely small scale that can used to
develop smart materials and implants for the medical industry. New nanotechnologies are
being created and developed at breakneck speed. As part of the activities of Nanoforum we
plan to hold a conference on ‘Nanotechnology and Smart Materials for Medical Devices’
in Edinburgh at the Dynamic Earth December 1st and 2nd 2003.
Venue
The Dynamic Earth set 10 minutes walk from the historic Royal Mile and Edinburgh Castle is like nothing on earth. The building is situated at the foot of Arthur's Seat, adjacent to the Palace of Holyroodhouse and the site of the new Scottish Parliament.
The Scientific Proceedings will be held in the Biosphere, a dedicated conference suite. The Pre Dinner Reception will be held in the Earthscape Galleries a unique environment representing the Rainforest, Polar regions and the Oceans. With its magnificent translucent roof and glass walls, the dramatic setting of the Stratosphere is the venue of choice for the Conference dinner.
